Manly Marine Closures Ltd. is named after its founder John Peter Manly. John Manly was born on the west coast of Canada and began his career building boats at a local shipyard. In 1946, John saw an opportunity to start his own shipyard, building small commercial vessels. As time progressed he expanded into steel and aluminum construction of fish boats, tugs and patrol vessels.
